I have been a hair stylist for several decades. How many, we need not specify. I will say that, even before becoming a professional, the craft inspired me. As a child, I saw the connection between affirming someone's best visual traits and his or her confidence and sense of personal vitality.

 

I spent my time in garden-variety environments, but when I met renowned Austrian stylist Horst Rechelbacher, my whole view of this profession changed forever.

 

He had just started the Aveda line of products, and his vision was a completely new perspective for me. He was unique among those concerned with the environment, in that he believed that there was an entrepreneurial solution to the stewardship of this planet's resources.

 

He lived out that vision to the end of his life. By the time he passed, he was recoognized by all types as a business genius.

 

I had the honor or being among the first to participate in a spiritual retreat at his compound in the forests of northern Wisconsin. Hair wasn't even discussed for the entire week. In fact, not much was discussed, since it was mostly spent in silence.

 

He moved on from the brand he founded, but it remains the leader among well-being products. That's why Elan carries it exclusively.

 

Aveda is now a huge enterprise with stringent standards for quality and mission.

 

Elan adheres to those standards, but you may find the atmosphere at this salon a bit less formal that that at most Aveda salons. That's because, having proven my belief in the company from the earliest days, I am able to create the

environment that works for me and my clients.

 

So you may encounter birthday celebrations, impromptu jazz performances (by my guitarist husband

and any combination of his musical buddies), platters of delectables made by clients, the aforementioned

husband, or members of the Greater Elan Community, or certainly engaging conversations on any

number of subjects whenever you stop by.

 

And you'll feel that who you are has been affirmed.

 

That's what Elan is. I created it that way.
